“We need each other” — President Tinubu Says Pleading With Foreign Corporations To Stay In Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged multinational corporations in Nigeria, “We need each other”
On Thursday, December 7, 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu begged international businesses doing business in Nigeria to stay put.
He declared that his administration was committed to getting rid of any obstacles preventing their companies from operating smoothly. He went on to say that no barrier is too great to be overcome in order to turn Nigeria into a safe haven for significant investments.
Speaking at the State House in Abuja to a visiting delegation of Shell Group management headed by Ms. Zoe Yujnovich, the company's Global Integrated Gas and Upstream Director, President Tinubu stated, “We are very focused on resolving all investment-related issues. There is no bottleneck that is too difficult for us to remove in our determined march toward making Nigeria the African haven for large-scale investment in all key sectors. We need each other.”
In a statement released on Friday and signed by Ajuri Ngelale, the President's Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, Tinubu expressed optimism about the possibility of more funding from Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria.
The President emphasized Nigeria's historical relationship with Shell, which began with the discovery of the nation's first commercial oil field in 1956. He also gave the Shell delegation his word that his administration would secure and promote both current and new investments.
He also said, “We have made progress since our last meeting. I will continue to support and encourage you on this path.
“There is no doubt that there is a significant focus on investment in and around the continent. I am spearheading Nigeria's global march for new investments at home.
“In view of our long-term relationship that has been established over the years, we want you to do more, and we are ready to encourage you in every way possible.”
This coincides with the departure of multiple global corporations from Nigeria, including P&G and GSK.
