Nigerians' reactions to the incident have been mixed, with some criticizing the army and others demanding an investigation

The devastating bombing of Tudun Biri village, which resulted in the deaths of over 126 people, has happened, according to National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu. What matters most is moving forward and taking lessons from the incident.

“We are here to physically see and also talk directly to the people, victims, and families and make an assessment for the Federal Government.

“It is a tragedy and misfortune. But it has happened. What matters is how we move forward, what we are going to learn from here, and what exactly we need to do,” Mr Ribadu said.

According to Channels TV on Friday, Mr. Ribadu made this declaration while visiting the village with senators from northern Nigeria who were conducting a fact-finding mission.

People's Gazette revealed on Monday, citing an army source, how 126 Maulud celebrants were killed by an unintentional airstrike last Sunday in Tudun Giri village in Kaduna State's Igabi Local Government area.

The second bomb killed those who rushed to the scene to rescue villagers injured by the first bombing, according to Mr. Dahiru's account of how the army dropped two bombs on the village at intervals of thirty minutes.

“As we rushed to aid the injured, the jet returned, unleashing a second bomb; this time, many of those who had come to help were among the casualties. We have 66 loved ones receiving medical care at Barau Dikko Hospital,” Mr Dahiru said.

Reactions to the incident have been mixed, with some Nigerians criticizing the army and demanding an investigation.

In a statement on Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu ordered an investigation into the incident while expressing condolences for the people lost in the unintentional airstrike.

The Nigerian army has bombed civilian targets numerous times before, with Tudun Biri's incident being the most recent. During an aerial strike on armed bandits in Niger State in 2021, an Alpha jet of the Nigerian Air Force accidentally killed wedding guests.

Almost 100 civilians were killed in a bombing of a similar nature in January 2023. Some Nigerian soldiers were killed by the Nigerian Air Force in an airstrike prior to that, as they were believed to be insurgents.
