NLC And TUC Calls For National Strike
| Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) |
A total nationwide strike is set to begin on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, according to the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Following an unprecedented meeting of the National Executive Council, the two union leaderships struck an accord on Tuesday, November 7, in Abuja.
The brutalization of NLC National President Joe Ajaero at a rally in Imo State last week prompted this action by Organized Labor.
The Organised Labour accused Mohammed Barde, the Imo state commissioner of police, of taking part in the recent attack on Ajaero, in Owerri.
Apart from holding the governor, Hope Uzodimma, who is seeking reelection, accountable for the assault on Ajaero, Organized Labor issued a five-day ultimatum to the Federal Government last Friday, demanding that the police commissioner be replaced. The governor subsequently asserted, nevertheless, that he was not involved in the assault on the labor leader.
