The lawmaker disclosed that the bill was already on the Senate floor, saying, "We had a first reading of the Diaspora Voting Bill exactly two Tuesdays ago.
The Nigerian diaspora's ability to cast a ballot in general elections is reportedly being considered by the Senate under the Diaspora Voting Bill.
Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti), the Senate Leader, revealed that the bill was already on the Senate floor during a virtual discussion on Monday, November 13.
"Exactly two Tuesdays ago, we had a first reading of the Diaspora Voting Bill. It passed the first reading and was scheduled for the second.
Definitely, I can assure you, as the leader of the Senate, we will be considering the second reading of the bill during this week," he said.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the diaspora voting measure was rejected by the 9th Senate in March 2022.
The bill aimed to change the 1999 Constitution so that Nigerians living abroad may cast ballots in elections.
