IG Of Police Force Appoints New CP For Rivers State
New CP Olatunji Disu appointed to head Rivers State Command
Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police (CP), has been named as the new leader of the Rivers State police command by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.
In an effort to bolster security, prevent violent crime, and improve coordination, the IGP has also redeployed seven additional senior police officers to other commands around the nation.
The other CPs appointed or redeployed include CP George Chuku to Bayelsa State Command, CP Ahmed Tijani to Jigawa State Command, CP Dan Shawulu to Niger State Command, CP Usman Hayatu to Gombe State Command, CP Danjuma Aboki to Imo State Command, CP Isyaku Muhammed to Ondo State Command, and others.
The redeployments were announced with a police signal and went into action right away. The IGP gave the CPs instructions in the signal to demonstrate their professional competence in their new leadership positions.
Disu was appointed just three days after young people in Rivers state staged a protest and demanded that the previous Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, be redeployed. The protest was sparked by rumors that some police officers had shot and threatened Governor Siminalaye Fubara while he was assessing the damage caused by a fire that had destroyed the state's House of Assembly chambers.
