Flight Operations Suspended At Abuja Airport As Aircraft Overshoots Runway


Aircraft blocks the runway at Abuja Airport following an accidental landing, suspending flights


On Sunday, November 12, 2023, a Boeing 737 belonging to Aero Contractors with registration number 5N-BYQ nose-stuck after landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, narrowly averting a catastrophic tragedy.


After the plane took off in the morning from Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, the event occurred at roughly 10:47 a.m. had arrived at the airport in Abuja.


The National Safety and Investigation Bureau (NSIB) director of public affairs and consumer protection, Dr. James Odaudu, stated in a statement that the aircraft's nose wheel became lodged in the grass edge while its fuselage was on the runway during landing.


He claimed that before the aircraft was forced off the runway, the event caused the runway to close.


Furthermore, he stated that as of the moment of the major occurrence, there were no fatalities among the passengers or crew members on board.


In addition, he urged the public to respect the privacy of those on board and hold off on speculating on the reason for the serious occurrence until the agency had produced an official report.
