The youngest lawmaker in Nigeria and member representing Owode Onire state constituency, Hon Rukayat Shittu wins



Rukayat Shittu's election was ruled to be inconclusive by the Kwara State Election Petition Tribunal, a judgment that was overturned by the Abuja Court of Appeal.


The sensational lawmaker, a candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), was elected in March 2023. However, opposition candidate Magaji Abdullahi of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) contested her victory in the electoral tribunal.


The youngest member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rukayat Shittu, representing the Owode Onire state constituency.


Her victory was challenged by the PDP candidate, Magaji Abdullahi. The election petition tribunal in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital cancelled election results in 5 polling units and ordered a rerun in the 5 units.


Rukayat appealed the tribunal's decision to the Court of Appeal in Abuja.


The ruling of the lower court was overturned by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which ruled that Rukayat Shittu was duly elected to represent the Owode Onire constituency.


The Court of Appeal upheld INEC's designation of Rukayat Shittu as the legislator who was legitimately elected, dismissing PDP's claim as substantively deficient.
