Comply With Court Order - FG To NLC, TUC

The Federal Government, through the AGF office, has been locked in legal battles with the NLC and TUC leaders over the strikes the unions

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have received a warning from the federal government not to go ahead with their planned strike action, as doing so would be considered a contempt of court.

In a statement released on Monday, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, claimed that the government has secured a restraining order from the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) that prevents the unions from carrying out the strike.

According to Fagbemi, the order was officially served to the unions and was approved by Justice B. B. Kanyip, President of the NICN, on November 10.

He pleaded with the unions to uphold the rule of law and obey the court's directive.

"Using self-help is not necessary," stated Fagbemi. "We urge workers to report for duties and not to entertain any fear as their safety is guaranteed and will be protected within the ambit of law."
