Chicago State University Saga: "We Don't Have Time For Frivolous Issues" - Minister Of Foreign Affairs
Yusuf Tuggar, the minister of foreign affairs, has stated in light of the recent controversy surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's academic records from Chicago State University (CSU) that the administration of the president does not have time to waste on such "trivial matters" and that these are distractions.
Speaking on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Tuggar said that the scandal had no bearing on any of the president's most recent international engagements.
"There is a tendency to always try to distract and detain people on such frivolous issues as opposed to facing the major issues of development. We don't have time to waste on that," he said.
He claimed that Muhammadu Buhari, a former president, had dealt with a comparable situation over his academic credentials.
Nobody is wasting time debating whether a person who has held the office of governor of a state for two terms and participated in national politics qualifies for a degree.
"You remember that (former) President Buhari had to go through the same thing, where people were actually questioning whether he went to secondary school or not. Someone who had classmates was the captain; he was a head boy." he said.
The minister asserted that the topic has not been discussed in any of the foreign gatherings the president has visited or dealt with.
"The foreign leaders that we've been engaging and the international organizations clearly are disinterested in wasting time on such, "We pay no mind to that," Tuggar stated.
