Rivers State House of Assembly starts the process of impeaching Governor Fubara

The impeachment procedure against Siminialayi Fubara, the state governor, has been initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

24 of the 32 members of the state house of assembly are said to have signed the notice of impeachment against the governor.

This happened during an emergency meeting on Monday, October 30, shortly after the governor was allegedly attacked by security personnel en route to the government residence.

The parliament had ousted Ehie Edison from his position as house leader earlier in plenary.

A portion of the Rivers House of Assembly was destroyed by fire on Sunday.

Supporters of the governor surrounded the assembly complex on Monday in an attempt to protest the impeachment of Fubara.
