EPL: Chelsea Needs Four Elite Players To Catch Man City - Carragher
Jamie Carragher |
Chelsea are allegedly still four great players away from being ready to contend for the Premier League, according to Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
In the last three transfer windows, the Blues had already spent £1 billion on new players.
Since May 2022, 33 new contracts have been signed under the leadership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake.
However, despite stints as head coach under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor, and Frank Lampard, Chelsea placed 12th in the Premier League last year.
Following the summer's appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, they are currently positioned in the bottom half.
The club would still need at least four quality players if they had any hope of reaching Manchester City, according to Carragher, who said on Monday Night Football: "If you're telling me that's Chelsea's best team after they've spent £1bn."
"The goalkeeper is not good enough, the centre-forward is not good enough, they need a centre-back and probably another midfield player.
"To think Chelsea have spent over £1bn and they still feel like they're half a team away from competing for the Premier League title is flabbergasting."
