Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, commonly known as Naira Marley, was the target of a production warrant issued by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos on Friday.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is pursuing criminal charges against Naira Marley on 11 counts that touch on conspiracy and credit card theft.
When the hearing was resumed on Friday, the defendant's attorney, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, informed the court that the defendant had to miss the hearing because he had been arrested by the police and was being questioned about the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
Ojo asked to the court to postpone the trial as a result.
However, in response, the prosecution's attorney, Bilkisu Buhari, asked the court to issue a production warrant against the defendant in order to guarantee his attendance at the next adjourned date.
In response to the prosecution's requests, Justice Oweibo issued a warrant for the defendant's production.
The judge further postponed the case to October 30, 2023, so that the trial may continue.
