Nigeria/Benin Are Leading The Battle For The 2027 AFCON Host As Algeria Withdraws

It is anticipated that the joint proposal from Nigeria and its neighbor, the Benin Republic, would secure the right to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The host countries for the 2025 and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals will be announced on Wednesday by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

At a meeting scheduled to take place at the Marriott Hotel in Cairo's Zamalek district, the CAF Executive Committee will vote on the bids for the 2025 and 2027 editions of the AFCON.

Morocco will be chosen to host the 2025 championships.

Senegal, Egypt, Botswana, and a tripartite alliance of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are competing with Nigeria and the Republic of Benin's joint proposal for the 2027 event.

Prior to the North African nation's withdrawal from the competition on Tuesday morning, Algeria was a promising prospect for the 2027 tournament.

The MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja, the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, and the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano are the stadiums that Nigeria has proposed.

The Stade Mathieu Kerekou in Cotonou and the Stade Charles de Gaulle in Porto Novo are mentioned under the Republic of Benin.
