The third iteration of the Nigerian Communications Commission's Talent Hunt Research through Hackathon has begun.

Its Strategic Vision Plan 2023–2025, which aims to promote the creation of new technologies and indigenous content through cutting-edge research, is part of what this is about.

NCC is accepting proposals through a N10 million grant and hackathon for its 2023 Talent Hunt Research.According to the Commission, this effort aims to encourage Nigeria's sustainable economic growth and development.

According to the Commission, it has asked Tech Hubs and Innovation-Driven Enterprises (IDES) across Nigeria to participate in the Talent Hunt Research with their start-ups and solutions.

The hackathon, according to the Commission, would concentrate on technology solutions for renewable energy in rural areas, as well as data protection solutions enabled by blockchain for improving regulatory compliance.

The NCC added that its Talent Hunt Research Through Hackathon makes use of Emerging Digital Technologies to support the creation of locally developed creative solutions and local content in the telecommunications industry while promoting economic development and social advancement in Nigeria.

According to the Commission, the competition will allow for the development of new concepts into hardware and software solutions that solve societal and industrial problems.

The best three proposals, one from each of the three sectors mentioned above, would earn grants of N10 million each for the development of the solutions, according to a statement signed by Reuben Muoka, Director, Public Affairs of the NCC.

The NCC stated that it has established eligibility requirements for those wishing to enter the competition, which include the requirement that the Enterprise provide a certificate of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the Enterprise must not have previously received support from the Commission, the project should have clear relevance to one of the three aforementioned thematic areas, and it must provide a clear problem statement, proposed solution, and roadmap to deployment.

In addition, the solution must be novel with the applicant making a declarative statement on ownership of the intellectual property; the solution including prototype development shall be completed within 6 months of receipt of the Grant; and the solution must propose a detailed commercialization plan of the prototype, according to NCC.

It also stated that according to the entry submission format, the proposal had to include ideation, a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and solution, current sweat equity investment, product-market fit status, verifiable go-to-market status, growth feasibility assurances, a maturity model and timeliness, and, where applicable, existing time for disaster recovery.

It mandated that all submissions must be submitted online and must adhere to the specified entry format. There is no fee to enter the competition, and the Commission retains full control and ownership of the developed solutions' intellectual property.

Additionally, the NCC specified that entries had to be submitted by a Tech Hub/Innovation-Driven Enterprise and included a 4-page Executive summary of the project concept, a 3-5 minute video of the pilot project, names, ages, contact information, passport photos, team member profiles, the website (if available), as well as the applicant's email address.

with the zipped file's name being the company's name and "Submission from" as the subject line.

The Commission stated that it has been running a three-week-long advertisement on the Hackathon and requests that those involved in the startup ecosystem take note that the application deadline is Friday, September 22, 2023.
