FG Deploys Cayuse Attack Helicopters To Increase Army Capability

The Nigerian Army announced that the Federal Government had approved the purchase of the first 12 MD 530F Cayuse Attack Helicopters, which will enable it to begin operations to address the nation's security issues.

The purchase of the new attack helicopters is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen Army Aviation's operational capabilities so that it can appropriately respond to current and emerging security threats, according to a statement from Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations.

He claimed that the statement was made by Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), at the Army Headquarters when he opened the Nigerian Army Aviation Maiden Seminar on Aviation Security Awareness.

According to him, the seminar with the theme: "Enhancing the Capacity of the Nigerian Army Aviation towards Achieving Constitutional Responsibilities in a Joint Environment", is in line with the command philosophy of

"Transforming the Nigerian Army into a Well-trained, Equipped, and Highly Motivated Force towards achieving its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment."

He stated that the conference would act as a genuine forum for discussing important topics and exchanging priceless thoughts regarding the future of the Nigerian Army Aviation.

General Lagbaja added that the Nigerian Army is aware of the highly technical nature of the aviation industry and the need for appropriate mentoring, noting that since 2014, the Nigerian Army has made commendable progress in training pilots, aircraft engineers, technicians, and other ground support crews.
