Carabao Cup: Pochettino Explanation For Dropping A Chelsea Star
Mauricio Pochettino |
Mykhailo Mudryk's recent promotion to the starting lineup, according to Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, contributed to Ben Chilwell's drop to the Blues' bench of substitutes.
When Chilwell became an integral part of Chelsea's management team in the summer, it seemed as though he was destined for a prominent position in Pochettino's revamped squad.
The 26-year-old appeared to be back to his best after a season marred by injuries last year, playing a significant role in a draw against Liverpool and against Luton Town in a more attack-minded role.
"I am so happy with Levi and the way he is playing. He is providing the team with a very good balance," Pochettino said on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup game against Brighton.
"Chilly has the possibility to play tomorrow [Wednesday]."
"We were using him maybe not in his best position because he was a winger," Pochettino said when asked about Chilwell's lack of game time.
"That is why when we started to play with Mischa, our thought was to keep Levi in the position."
Chelsea will play Brighton Hove Albion for Carabao Cup run.
