"I'm very grateful to you..."
Romelu Lukaku of Inter Milan has complimented Thierry Henry, a former Arsenal striker, for the work they did with the Belgian national team.
Despite calling the Frenchman "very old school and very strict," Lukaku claimed that it was during their time together that he performed some of his best footballing feats.
Between 2016 and 2018 and 2021 and 2022, Henry served as the Belgian national team's assistant coach and collaborated with Lukaku.
The Belgian international is aware that, under the Frenchman, he developed into the most effective striker he could be.
The Chelsea striker has now made 106 appearances for his country and scored an incredible 72 goals.
In the second leg of Tuesday night's Champions League semifinal between Inter Milan and AC Milan, Lukaku started on the bench.
The Belgian international was asked if he missed working with the iconic striker while Henry was on punditry duties for CBS, and he responded: "Yeah, yeah I do."
Regarding Henry's teaching style, Lukaku explained: ""Very, very old school, very strict....
"We sat together every day for that training camp for eight days, two days watching scouts of every game, every clip. There your touch was bad, there you did well. It was always half and half.
"Then from there I had my best year in the Prem, from there in the national team I started scoring every game. I'm very grateful to him, he still does it today."
