Bola Tinubu, the next president, has vowed to unite the nation and get things done as soon as he takes office on May 29. He has also pledged to maintain good relations with the United States.

The guarantees were given by the incoming Nigerian president to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken over the phone on Tuesday evening.

According to Tinubu, one of his top priorities right away will be to implement institutional reforms and development initiatives to strengthen democratic institutions and assist the underprivileged in Nigeria.

According to a statement by spokeswoman Tunde Rahman, he expressed a commitment to advancing Nigeria's democracy and faithfully serving the people in his capacity as president.

Tinubu talked for around 20 minutes on his exciting time in America in the 1970s, where he earned an accounting degree with honors in 1979.

He also recalled how the US offered him sanctuary after the late General Sani Abacha's military government exiled him as a result of his tenacious fight for democracy in Nigeria.

Asserting his democratic credentials, Tinubu stated his unwavering conviction that the outcome of the elections, which he easily won, represented the wishes of the Nigerian people.

The former Lagos governor pledged to fight to bring Nigerians together and make sure they are content while taking advantage of democracy and progressive good government.

He claimed that without a strong sense of identity, security, economic growth, and sound governance, neither Nigeria would improve as a place to live nor would it be able to fulfill its legitimate place in the community of African countries.

Tinubu pleaded with the US to take into account Nigeria's significant position in Africa and offer support in the areas of security and economic investment so that the country can lead the way and serve as a model for the rest of the continent.

Secretary Blinken stated that Nigeria could count on the US and the US to have a good relationship that is advantageous to both parties.

A democratic and peaceful Nigeria is vital to both the US and Africa, he said, promising to do his share to foster a long-lasting and friendly relationship between the two countries.
