SERIE A:VICTOR OSIMHEN SURPASSES GEORGE WEAH'S RECORD AS NAPOLI DEFEAT FIORENTINA
| Victor Osimhen |
Victor Osimhen of Napoli has surpassed George Weah's previous mark for the most African goals scored in Serie A history.
The Nigerian accomplished the milestone after converting a penalty kick in Napoli's 1-0 Serie A victory over Fiorentina on Sunday.
The goal, which is his 23rd of the year, is his 47th in Serie A, surpassing Weah's previous record of 46 goals to make him the highest-scoring African player in the Italian top division.
Before successfully defeating Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano at the second attempt in the 74th minute, Osimhen missed a penalty in the 48th minute.
After scoring an equalizer for the Azzurri in their 1-1 draw with Udinese on Thursday, which helped Napoli win their first Serie A championship in 33 years, he also extended his record for the Most Goals Scored by an African Player in a Single Serie A Season.
