Rema Creates History On The Canadian Billboard And US Billboard Hot 100 Charts
As the first Nigerian to place as the lead artist in the top 5 of the US Billboard Hot 100 list, popular singer Divine Ikubor, a.k.a. Rema, has created history.
Despite having previously topped the charts with Drake's "One Dance" and Future's "Wait 4 U," respectively, Wizkid and Tems were only given credit as featured artists.
Rema became the first Nigerian to record a top 5 song as the lead performer on May 8, 2023, when his remix of Selena Gomez's hit single, "Calm Down," reached its peak at No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
With 35 weeks apiece, the song and Wizkid's "Essence" shared the record for the longest-running African single in the history of the list.
Rema also achieved a new milestone when his smash hit "Calm Down" reached No. 1 on the Canadian Billboard Hot 100, making him the first Nigerian to hold that position as a lead artist.
Rema recently made the Guinness World Records list, as was previously announced.
He received recognition for obtaining the first number-one song, "Calm Down," on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region's first-ever official chart and first-ever regional streaming chart.
