Masari Explains The Reasons Why Northern Governors Backed Tinubu
Aminu Masari, the governor of Katsina, has explained why Northern governors backed Bola Tinubu's bid for the presidency.
The governor revealed this to Alhaji Umar Faruq-Umar, the Emir of Daura, on Thursday when paying him a goodbye visit.
Masari claimed that Tinubu received the support of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors because of their regard for the zoning plan.
"God had saved us from shame during the last general elections where the APC recorded huge successes," he said.
Masari noted that the current administration would have been regarded as a failure had the party lost the presidential poll.
"God helped President Muhammad Buhari to defend his integrity, because if we had failed in the election, he would be the first to be blamed."
The governor went on to say that he and his colleagues had foresight and were aware of the attempts to damage the reputation of the Nigerian leader.
Although political parties support zoning, according to Masari, some APC members wanted to disregard it before 2023, "but we rejected."
The Katsina helmsman believed that some parties' disregard for the zoning formula was what led to the problems they are currently facing.
Masari noted that the reason northerners were able to gain the respect of the populace was "because once we said yes, it's always yes."
