AFCON U-17: GOLDEN EAGLETS OF NIGERIA ADVANCE TO THE KNOCKOUT ROUNDS
The Nigerian Golden Eaglets have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is currently taking place in Algeria.
At the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui in Constantine on Saturday, Nigeria overcame South Africa 3-2 in a highly exciting match.
Vicky Mkhawana opened the scoring for the South Africans after a corner kick five minutes into the game, and Nigeria fell behind again.
Charles Agada scored Nigeria's tying goal with a strong header thirty minutes later.
However, Siyabonga Mabena's outstanding solo effort three minutes into the first half of extra time gave the South Africans an early lead.
Light Eke scored for his team in the first minute of the second half to get them back in the game.
25 minutes later, Abubakar Abdullahi's goal off of a low cross from Emmanuel Michael gave Nigeria the advantage and the game's maximum three points.
After two victories in three games, Nigeria has joined Morocco in the round of 16 from Group B.
