SUDAN CONFLICT: THREE FLIGHTS LAND IN EGYPT TO EVACUATE NIGERIANS WHO HAVE BECOME STRANDED

According to reports, the Federal Government has dispatched three Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft to transport stranded Nigerians who are currently at the Egyptian border back home.

Air Peace, a commercial airline, is also on standby to evacuate people from Egypt.

"The plane landed a few hours ago at Aswan. The first set of evacuees will depart today," according to a source.

The Federal Government has committed to do everything possible to bring the stranded Nigerians home from Sudan, even though the window allowed by the warring factions for other countries to evacuate individuals is set to expire today.

Despite repeated requests, Egyptian authorities have denied affected Nigerians entry into their country.

The FG is still working on obtaining permission for Sudanese evacuees to enter Egypt via road, from which they would board flights back home.

Nigerians who left Khartoum, Sudan's capital, on Wednesday have been stuck at the border between Sudan and Egypt.

According to reports, nearly a thousand Nigerian students have been trapped at the Egyptian border for four days.

Two of them, who transmitted a video of their condition at the Egyptian border, called with the Nigerian government to step up efforts to get them cleared to continue their journey back home.

"We have been here for four days now, no food, no water. The government should come to our rescue", one of them pleaded in the video.
