THE GOVERNOR OF OSUN HAS ORDERED A REVIEW OF INCOME COLLECTION PROCESSES
Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, has mandated an overhaul of the tax collection protocol, which impacts the Ministry of Environment and other agencies.
The current directive follows concerning claims of misbehavior by some revenue consultants affiliated with the Ministry of Environment.
The decision was contained in a statement signed on Friday in Osogbo by the state governor's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
According to the statement, the Governor ordered an immediate halt to the inherited collection model in the Ministry of Environment.
"The MOU must be prepared by the Ministry of Justice, spelling out detailed modus operandi of activities and governing protocol for all revenue officers.
"No revenue consultant should operate without a standard MOU administered by the Ministry of Justice," Adeleke directed.
Governor Adeleke, who expressed surprise at the alleged activities of some revenue consultants, also directed the concerned MDAs to convene an emergency meeting of all revenue consultants in order to execute the new instruction and sanction erring agents.
"Our administration has zero tolerance for corrupt practices. We will sanction heavily any official found indulging in practices against financial regulations. Immediate reform must be implemented as directed", the statement concluded.
While reiterating his administration's zero-tolerance attitude for unethical behavior, the governor threatened harsh penalties for any revenue agents found flouting conventional processes or participating in egregious behavior against the state's interests.
