Real Madrid responded on Friday to the death of Patxi Izco, the president of C. A. Osasuna from 2002 to 2012.

The defending UEFA Champions League champions sent their sympathies to Izco's family upon his death.

Real Madrid issued a statement on its official website regretting the death of Izco, who died at the age of 77.

"Real Madrid would like to express its condolences and its affection to all his family, his loved ones, his club and all the supporters of C. A. Osasuna.

"May he rest in peace," Real Madrid's statement reads in part.

During Izco's presidency, Osasuna reached their first Copa del Rey final and advanced to the UEFA Cup semi-finals.
