RAPE ALLEGATION: BISHOP FEYI DANIELS HAS BEEN REMANDED IN KIRIKIRI PRISON BY A LAGOS COURT
A Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has remanded bishop Daniel Oluwafeyiropo, the founder of 'I Reign Christian Ministry,' for allegedly raping two of his church members (names withheld).
According to reports, a judge named Ramon Oshodi remanded Bishop Daniel, the founder of I Reign Christian Ministry, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre until his bail requirements were met.
Oshodi set bail at N20 million with two sureties in the same amount.
He stated that one of the sureties must be the owner of a build-up property in Lagos State, with a value sufficient to cover the bail amount.
The judge also ordered the defendant to surrender his foreign passport with the court's chief registrar and to expedite the case's hearing.
Oshodi rescheduled the matter for trial on May 9th.
Earlier, the defense attorney, Olukunle Oyewole, urged the court to grant bail to the defendant on liberal terms in his bail application dated 10 April.
Oyewole contended that the defendant had been on police administrative bail since May 20, 2022, and that he had made himself available to the police, "My lord, the defendant was not informed on the day the matter came up for the first time before this court. The defendant is a well-known religious leader and he has shown by his action that he will not jump bail. The offence for which he is charged is a bailable offence and he has credible sureties that can stand for him," he said.
In his counter-affidavit dated 14 April, the state's main prosecution counsel, Babajide Boye, asked the court to deny the defendant's bail motion, but left it up to the court's discretion.
Boye, on the other hand, contended that the alleged offenses were significant and that conviction would put the defendant at risk of fleeing.
