OKONJO-IWEALA LAYS FORTH A PLAN FOR ABIA GOVERNOR-ELECT ALEX OTTI
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, has challenged Abia Governor-elect Dr. Alex Otti with running clean and transparent governance.
Okonjo-Iweala stated that the new government should prioritize "disruptive techniques" over "established operating systems."
She delivered the charge in a virtual speech during the inauguration of the 100-member 2023 Abia Transition Council in Aba, Abia's economic capital.
She said: "I told the governor-elect that everything we will do would depend on this governance.
"Nigerians, especially from that side of the South-East, have lost faith in governance.
"They no longer believe the government can provide anything for them.
"They provide for themselves boreholes, electricity and every other thing for themselves.
"Although that is entrepreneurial, on the other hand, that is not how to run the place," the Nigeria-born economic expert said.
Otti was asked to lead a "better and cleaner government" and transparent governance that should be outstanding.
Okonjo-Iweala also invited Abians living abroad who are capable of assisting in the state's recovery and development to return and assist.
She expressed hope that with Otti, "there is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put Abia on the proper track of development and modernization through disruptive digital technology."
She advised the governor-elect to consider how to bring Abia into the contemporary world and join the train to humanity's future.
