NIGERIAN AVIATION CRISIS: ALLEN ONYEMA CONCERNS ABOUT THE ONGOING CRISIS
"Strikes should be used as a last..."
Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace, has expressed his thoughts on the country's aviation employees' strike.
Striking aviation unions recently issued a seven-day ultimatum to close the airport, culminating in a procession to the international wing of Lagos' Murtala Muhammad International Airport.
The employees barred access highways on the opening day of their two-day warning strike, as security personnel took over the demonstration venue where the unions assembled.
As members of the unions, the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Employees (NAAPE) are demanding the implementation of service conditions, a halt in the demolition of aviation agencies' offices in Lagos State, and payment of relocation allowances, among other things.
In response to the development, Onyema stated that the strike should only be used as a last resort, and that workers' objections should be investigated.
On Monday, he spoke during an interview with Arise TV.
Oyeama stated, "Let strike be the last resort. As long as the other party is open to discussion, there should not be direct action.
"However, the complaints of workers should be looked into."
