MIKEL SUGGESTS AKPOM FOR A SUPER EAGLES INVITATION
Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi believes in-form Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom deserves to be included in the squad.
Akpom is the Sky Bet Championship's leading scorer, with 28 goals for Michael Carrick's team this season.
Despite having previously represented England at youth level, the 27-year-old of Nigerian heritage is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
In a 2019 interview with the BBC, the striker claimed that he is willing to play for Nigeria at the senior level.
However, Akpom has yet to be selected by Nigeria since making the announcement.
"Its a straight forward choice if you ask me," Mikel is quoted by OWNGOAL Nigeria.
"You are doing it for your team then you at least get an invitation (National team). 28 goals and not a chance yet with Nigeria then you have to ask the coach why the top-scorer in the championship is not yet in his team. Even England I believe will have a look at him with the way he is going," he said.
