GROUP IS PLEADING WITH PRESIDENT-ELECT TINUBU AND THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO INTERVENE

Igbo Indigenes Without Borders, a socio-cultural organization with members both inside and outside Nigeria, mainly in China, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, has asked President-elect Bola Tinubu to intercede in the case of former Senate Vice President Ike Ekweremadu.

Dr Bernard Oshi, the group's president, made the request at a news conference in Abuja on Friday.

Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, were found guilty of organ harvesting by the United Kingdom Central Criminal Court in London.

Oshi urged Tinubu and the upcoming 10th National Assembly to look into the matter with a human aspect and persuade the UK government to temper justice with mercy.

Similarly, he urged diplomats, notably those from the United Nations, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, to come to Ekweremadu's aid.

"Ekweremadu's parental instinct to provide care for his sick daughter even at the distressing cost of having to seek a kidney donor is not the type of crime a man should be abandoned to face alone," he said.

According to him, the organization, as a concerned institution, has been keeping a close eye on Ekweremadu's exceptional public and private service record as a lawyer, philanthropist, politician, and patriot.

Oshi used the news conference to congratulate President-elect Tinubu, Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima, all members of the National Assembly, governors, and state assembly members who were re-elected or elected for the first time.

He praised President Muhammadu Buhari's leadership and commitment to keeping the country united, especially during the recent challenging years.

"Our hope and prayer is for Nigeria to continue to witness peace and prosperity as we continue our democratic journey," he said.
