BENUE'S GOVERNMENT LAMENTS THE KILLINGS AND REQUESTS INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE

The Benue State government has called the ongoing attacks on its villages as financially expensive, particularly in recent times when over 18,000 inhabitants have fled to IDP camps.

Attacks by alleged Fulani herdsmen on settlements in the State's Otukpo, Apa, and Guma Local Government Councils have increased.

Shior stated that over 100 farmers were killed in one week while providing food and other goods to victims at the IDP camp, with 60 of those killed documented in Otukpo and Apa LGAS.

"Around 40 people were killed in Guma," he stated, emphasizing that "with the new attacks, many people have fled to IDP camps, increasing the state's financial burden in caring for the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs."
