ASSAULT ON THE PUBLIC: POLICE DERANKS ONE, SEVERELY REPRIMANDS ANOTHER

As the IGP Charges Officers with Professionalism and Respect for Fundamental Rights.

Following complaints and findings on video evidence widely circulated on social media on Sunday 9th April, 2023, of assault, discreditable conduct, and incivility to members of the public at Emouha, Rivers State, and a follow-up orderly room trial of the affected policemen by the Force Provost Marshal, one Ade joh Siaka was demoted from Inspector to Sergeant.

Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari, who was also present at the scene but did nothing to prevent such inappropriate and disgraceful behavior, was also harshly punished.

The Inspector General of Police has therefore charged officers and men of the Force with being diligent and upholding the lofty tenets of professional policing in the discharge of their duties with respect for the fundamental rights of all citizens in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution (as amended).

However, at the conclusion of the hearings, one Inspector Friday Obaka, who was later determined to have been away from the scene of the skirmish, was unconditionally discharged.

The three officers will be transferred out of Rivers State to other commands.
