ARSENAL WOMEN'S FOOTBALL TEAM PLANE CATCHES FIRE ON THE RUNWAY


The Arsenal women's football team experienced a terrifying moment on Sunday evening when their jet caught fire just before takeoff – happily, no one was harmed, and the team arrived home safely Monday.


The terrifying event occurred shortly after Arsenal's Champions League encounter against Wolfsburg in Germany. when, according to various reports, a bird flew into one of their plane's engines moments before it was scheduled to return the team to London.


According to a photo received by German news agency BILD, the contact produced a large blaze on one of the aircraft's wings, causing fear.


The trip was quickly aborted by the pilots, and fortunately, officials were able to get everyone off the plane and onto the ground without incident.


Arsenal claimed in a statement issued hours after the event that the players stayed overnight due to the plane's troubles but returned safely Monday.


"We would like to thank the staff onboard the aircraft and on the ground at the airport for their assistance," the team said.


Arsenal had a successful day prior to the terrifying moments on the runway, as the club rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 2-2 tie against Wolfsburg.
