I WILL WORK WITH PRESIDENT-ELECT TINUBU - MAKINDE
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has offered to cooperate with President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu when his administration takes office on May 29th.
This commitment was made by Makinde in an interview with TVC on Sunday.
Remember that the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, had already proclaimed Makinde the winner of the state's governorship race.
Sen. Teslim Folarin received 251,230 votes, while Makinde received 563,617 votes. Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord came in third place with 38,757 votes.
With three of his colleagues defeated, all eyes were on Makinde in the March 18 election. Makinde overcame the defeat sustained by other G5 members after INEC declared him the winner.
Governorship elections were held in 28 of Nigeria's 36 states on Saturday. The gubernatorial and state assembly elections were held a week later than planned due to a court order forcing INEC to move them up
Governorship elections are held "off-season" in eight of the 36 states, including Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun, and Ondo, due to litigation and court judgments.
In alphabetical order, the 28 states where governorship elections were on March 18 are Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara.
Makinde is the final of the PDP G5 or Integrity Group candidates to run for office. Governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Samuel Ortom (Benue), who have all been in power for eight years, have all lost senatorial bids, while Governor Nyesom Wike (Rivers), who is also finishing his second term, did not compete for any elective post.
