Actress-turned-politician Funke Akindele declared that she will succeed as Lagos State's deputy governor in 2023.
The 45-year-old who revealed this said that her most recent movie, Battle on Buka Street, served as a sort of farewell in an interview with Punch that was published on Wednesday.
She stated that in order to further her political career, she had handed the "baton of production to young people."
The mother of two continued, "Battle on Buka Street was like a farewell because I'm going to be the next Deputy Governor of Lagos State."
She said: "A great change has happened positively if you noticed. From being an actor, also write, produce, direct and discover new faces. So, I have passed the baton of production to the young people because have moved into politics now. So, 'Battle on Buka Street' is like a farewell because I am going to be the next deputy governor of Lagos State.
"So, I am passing the baton to the new ones because we need to give them an opportunity. Yes, will be in the background to advise and supervise them, but let them be the face, let us celebrate them, are you not tired of seeing old faces?
Battle on Buka Street, a film by Funke Akindele, tells the tale of two women who became at odds after opening a restaurant on the same street, sparking conflict and competition between their families.
On Tuesday, July 12, Funke posted a message on Instagram confirming her selection as the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) deputy governorship candidate.
