QATAR 2022: MESSI CROWNED THE GREATEST ATHLETE OF ALL TIME BEFORE JORDAN AND FEDERER
Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, has been hailed as history's greatest athlete by former Manchester City striker Stephen Elliott.
Elliott places Messi ahead of legends in other sports, including tennis legend Roger Federer and basketball legend Michael Jordan.
He made this statement after Messi helped Argentina defeat Croatia 3-0 in Tuesday's World Cup semifinal match.
Argentina defeated Croatia in the World Cup semifinals thanks to a penalty kick from Messi.
The winner of this weekend's World Cup final between Morocco and France will now face Messi and his colleagues.
"Wonder if Messi has ever looked at a defender and thought 'Be tough tonight'. I would go as far as saying he will go down as the greatest sportsman ever, never mind the greatest footballer," Elliott wrote on Twitter.
"I know there have been icons Jordan, Federer, etc. but his levels are so far ahead of everyone else."
