Olusegun Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria, urged young people not to let individuals who could ruin their future triumph.

In addition, Obasanjo exhorted them to change the narrative by being involved in all socioeconomic and political endeavors.

The former leader spoke at a mentorship retreat hosted by the Youth Development Center of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, according to a statement from spokeswoman Kehinde Akinyemi (OOPL).

He claimed that the youth's latent potential is not being realized in the majority of Africa due to clear barriers.

The former head of state urged the next generation to never let another person define or influence their place in society.

Obasanjo stated that if young people are so desperate that they will cross the desert in search of menial jobs in Europe, then their energy and spirit should be directed into eradicating physical and psychological barriers.

"I am challenging you as young Africans to engage in activities that would change the African narrative.

"Participate in socio-economic and political activities that guarantee a better future for you and don't allow those who are messing up your f future to succeed", he added.
