THE REASON I MIMICKED RONALDO'S "SIU" CELEBRATION GHANAIAN BUKARI DISCUSSES DISRESPECTING AN ICON

Osman Bukari

Osman Bukari of Ghana has explained why he chose to celebrate his goal against Portugal by performing Cristiano Ronaldo's signature "Siu" celebration during the Black Stars' 3-2 World Cup loss on Thursday.

He denied the allegations that by using the celebration soon after the 37-year-old had done it after scoring Portugal's first goal from the penalty spot, he was insulting the football legend.

Bukari revealed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is his idol and claimed he only imitated the striker's signature celebration because he was "overcome with passion."

Thursday's exciting 3-2 triumph over Ghana in Doha marked Portugal's World Cup debut.

Within ten minutes, Portugal had a 3-1 lead, but Bukari scored Ghana's second goal of the game late on and imitated Ronaldo's iconic celebration.

Bukari said on social media that he had seen remarks about his celebration that implied he was making fun of the superstar.

"This is incorrect. I was overcome by the emotion of the moment of scoring for my country on my World Cup debut leading to my celebration," he explained.

Bukari, who asserted that he was not raised to disobey his elders, "let alone one of my idols," thanked the fans for their support and looked forward to the next game.
