NIGERIA IS NOT PREPARED FOR BVAS and ELECTRONIC RESULTS TRANSMISSION - ADAMU

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, has voiced concern about the implementation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the general election of 2023.

Mr. Adamu expressed his skepticism over the likelihood that the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) deployment of BVAS for the transmission of the poll would result in a fair outcome.

He named network issues and electrical issues as two main obstacles that could derail the deployment of technology for the 2023 elections.

In 2021, INEC implemented BVAS into the nation's electoral process, enabling, among other things, the accreditation of voters through biometrics capture and the uploading of polling results.

A variety of stakeholders have characterized BVAS as both an improvement over the smartcard reader used in the 2019 elections and a game-changer for the nation's electoral system.

INEC has earlier announced that it would be deploying around 200,000 BVAS across the nation for the exercise in advance of the 2023 election.
