Finally, Hushpuppi was found guilty of money laundering and was sentenced to 11 year, 3 month prison term in the US.

In the central district of California, the decision was made on Monday during a court proceeding (local time).

The accusation that Hushpuppi had laundered money from a school funding scam, compromised company emails, and other criminal cyber activities was proven true by Judge Otis Wright II.

According to the US Justice Department, Hushpuppi admitted to participating in a number of other email hack and cybercrime activities that collectively cost more than $24 million in losses.

The socialite received a more than 11-year prison term in the US for his involvement in a global fraud ring.

In addition, Hushpuppi was required to make reparation payments of $1,732,841 (£1,516,182) to two of his fraud victims

"He targeted both American and international victims, becoming one of the most prolific money launderers in the world," said Don Alway, the assistant director at the FBI's LA field office, in a statement after the court sitting.

"Abbas leveraged his social media platforms to gain notoriety and to brag about the immense wealth he acquired by conducting business email compromise scams, online bank heists, and other cyber-enabled fraud.

"All these financially ruined scores of victims and provided assistance to the North Korean regime. This significant sentence is the result of years' worth of collaboration among law enforcement in multiple countries.

"It should send a clear warning to international fraudsters that the FBI will seek justice for victims, regardless of whether criminals operate within or outside United States borders."

In a handwritten letter sent to Otis D. Wright, Hushpuppi is alleged to have professed regret for his misdeeds and promised to repay his victims with his own money.

It's believed that the con artist, real name Ramon Abbas, will spend the 135 months of his sentence in a federal prison.
