COURT ORDERS INEC TO RESUME CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION (CVR)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been directed to continue continuous voter registration (CVR) until 90 days before the general elections of 2023 by the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.

Michelle Dede (chief maid of honor), Kate Henshaw, Vicky Sogunro, and Dr. Olivia Waturuocha were among the qualified Nigerians who were given the order by Justice Inyang Ekwo in a ruling on Tuesday.

According to Mr. Ekwo, it is the constitutional duty of the electoral umpire to ensure that the procedure complies with Nigerian law.

The plaintiffs' case is successful on the merits, the judge ruled.

In a lawsuit with the case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1343/2022, Anajat Salmat and three other people sued NEC as the only defendant.

The plaintiffs maintained in the originating summons that INEC could not halt the CVR in violation of the agreed-upon constitutional principles.

They pleaded with the court to compel the electoral umpire to carry out the process once more in conformity with the law of the land.
