According to Ortom, anybody backing Atiku in 2023 presidential election is Benue's enemy

The Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has come under fire from Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Anyone who backs Atiku, according to Ortom, is an enemy of the Benue people.

As a result of the murders of Benue citizens by armed Fulani herdsmen, Ortom pledged never to support Atiku's presidential campaign while hosting his colleagues from Rivers, Oyo, Abia, and Enugu states in Makurdi, the state capital

The governor swore never to endorse a Fulani man for president of Nigeria.

He said, "To hell with Atiku and anyone supporting him. They should go and tell him. You want me to be slave for a Fulani. It's better I die. Anybody supporting Atiku is an enemy of Benue. My people are being killed and you want me to be quiet. My tenure ends in May and you can do whatever you want if you think you have the powers. I have written my will. I will never support a Fulani man to become president."

After Atiku emerged as the PDP's front-runner for president, Ortom, Nyesom Wike, Seyi Makinde, and Okezie Ikpeazu were against the party's leadership.

Additionally, Lyorchia Ayu's resignation as PDP's national chairman was demanded by the governors.

They emphasized that the North cannot provide the party's national chairman or presidential candidate.
