2023 ELECTIONS: NO VOTING FOR UNACCREDITED PERSONS - INEC
There must be no voting for anyone who is not accredited, according to a warning from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
This was said by Prof. Muhammad Lawal Bashar, the new resident electoral commissioner in Jigawa State, when he briefed reporters at the commission's Dutse offices.
According to him, the commission will start displaying voter registration from November 12, 2022, through November 25, 2022.
He described how the exercise would take place in local government INEC offices throughout Jigawa State and at the registration area (ward) level.
He said this, "Under Section 9(6) and 19(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, the commission will commence the display of the register of voters for public scrutiny. Claims and objections at registration areas start on Saturday 12th to Friday 18th November 2022 while claims and objections at local governments will start on Saturday 19th to Friday 25 November 2022."
According to him, the exercise is intended to allow voters the chance to locate their names on the voter list for potential observations and adjustments.
Lawan pointed out that any voter whose name has a problem with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be disqualified.
"Whenever the BVAS rejects any voter he will not be able to vote as this time around there is nothing like incident form," he said.
He recommended all eligible voters to check their names and photographs with their local governments or wards before reporting back to the commission for revisions.
