OSUN GUBERNATORIAL: OYETOLA BLAMES ADELEKE AND THE PDP FOR COURT DECISION
Gboyega Oyetola, Governor of Osun State, has blamed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke, for the court nullification of his candidacy in the July 16 governorship election.
According to MON DIARIES, Oyetola stated in response to Friday's decision that the PDP used the court system to divert attention away from the ongoing case in the tribunal.
The governor of Osun State, who may hand over power to Adeleke in November, has said he will appeal the court's decision.
An aide to Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. Ismail Omipidan, who made the statement, urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to remain calm in the face of a Federal High Court decision that nullified his candidacy in the July 16 gubernatorial election.
Oyetola's Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, said in a statement that the governor's lawyers were preparing to appeal the Federal High Court's decision.
According to Omipidan, "The case was instituted by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the fact there is a plethora of decisions flowing from the apex court that frowns upon such a decision.
"For the records, the position of the law is that only members of the APC who participated in the primary election can approach the court to challenge the nomination of Oyetola as the candidate of the party.
"All these are part of the antics of the opposition PDP and some of their collaborators from within to distract us. But like every of their plans, this too has fallen flat on their faces."
He continued, "They want to distract us from the tribunal case. But we shall remain focused until we take back our mandate. We have confidence in the Tribunal to do Justice in the case before it, just as we have implicit confidence in the Appeal Court to set aside this latest decision of the Federal High Court."
Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), who went to court in April this year to challenge Governor Isiaka Oyetola and his deputy as All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the Osun election.
