He should have been stopped - Scholes on Haaland's performance in Manchester United vs. Manchester City

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes the Red Devils should have done "something different" to stop Manchester City striker Erling Haaland during their 6-3 loss to Pep Guardiola's side on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.

Haaland continued his incredible start to life in England by scoring a hat trick against Manchester United over the weekend, bringing his season tally in the Premier League to 14 goals.

The Norwegian bullied Manchester United's defense and scored his first goal of the game by towering above everyone inside the box to head home a corner.

Haaland's other two goals were the result of him being in the right place at the right time to anticipate balls into the box, which he connected with with his feet.

Scholes believes Erik ten Hag's team could have done more to limit Haaland's runs during the game.

Scholes said of Premier League Productions: "He is virtually impossible to stop, but you have got to try and find a way. But as a Manchester United defender, in those situations, you can't always match up against these big players; you have to do something different if you are a smaller player."

"You have got to do something to try and stop him, even if it was just trying to stop a run. They just were not streetwise enough and he was so easy to play against, meaning it ended up being an embarrassing performance, first half especially."
