THE GAMBIA TOURISM BOARD IS FED UP WITH MIDDLE-AGED UK WOMEN VISITING FOR SEXUAL GRATIFICATION FROM AFRICAN "TOY" BOYS

The Gambia community is sick of older European women visiting the country to satisfy their sexual desires

According to Travel Noire, the African country has become a popular destination for UK middle-aged women seeking sexual gratification from African "toy" boys. It appears to have been a "thing" since the 1990s, when international travel agencies from the United Kingdom launched low-cost package tours to the tiny West African country.

Thousands of middle-aged women have visited Gambia with sex tourism intentions three decades later, prompting the Gambia government to speak out on the issue. The former British colony is currently working to attract "quality" visitors and change its reputation as a sex tourism destination.

"What we want is quality tourists. Tourists that come to enjoy the country and the culture, but not tourists that come just for sex". Abubacarr Camara, the director of the Gambia Tourism Board, said to The Sun UK.

The country has a population of 2.5 million people and is plagued by high unemployment and low wages. It's easy to see why young Gambian men see a relationship with a wealthy older Western woman as a financial opportunity.

The phenomenon has earned the moniker "bumsters." The term refers to impoverished young Gambian men who seek out Western women with whom they can develop a relationship—usually through online dating.
