OLAKUNLE OLUOMO, THE SPEAKER OF THE OGUN ASSEMBLY, HAS BEEN ARRESTEd BY THE EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Olakunle Oluomo, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly.
Oluomo was arrested on suspicion of committing financial crimes.
The Speaker was apprehended by the EFCC on Thursday morning at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The Speaker was apprehended after receiving a tip. However, an EFCC source admitted that the Ogun State Speaker had been invited several times but had failed to honor the invitations.
According to reports, the speaker is currently embroiled in a financial scandal that is being investigated by the anti-corruption agency.
The assembly filed charges against the anti-graft agency and the former Deputy Speaker, Oludare Kadiri, after receiving several invitations from the agency.
The Assembly charged both Mr Kadiri and the agency with conspiring to persecute the legislators.
Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC's spokesperson, did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
According to commission sources, the operatives took Mr. Oluomo to their Lagos office for questioning.
