A NOTORIOUS RAPIST APPREHENDED

A notorious rapist is apprehended by police after raping a lady on her farmland in Ebonyi

Miracle Onwe, a 19-year-old man from Ebonyi, has been arrested for allegedly raping Ruth Nwizi, a 22-year-old lady.

SP Chris Anyanwu, the command's spokesperson, stated on Friday that the suspect was a notorious and habitual rapist. According to Anyanwu, the suspect was apprehended after his most recent victim raised the alarm after he had carnal knowledge of her in the farmland.

"On 19/08/2022 at around 1700hrs, Ruth Nwizi, a 22-year-old girl, was farming at Aboffia village in Ebonyi LGA, Ebonyi State, when suddenly a young man came from behind and pounced on her," he said. The suspect, later identified as Miracle Onwe, 19, of Ezzamgbo in Ohaukwu LGA, pushed Ruth down and had carnal knowledge of her without her consent."

He went on to say that after the act, the suspect raped her and stole her $45,000 Infinix Smart 5 phone. He continued. "When the girl raised the alarm, attracting the attention of onlookers who pursued him, the suspect dived into a nearby river with the phone."

Following the report, police detectives swung into action with his detectives and cordoned off the area, eventually leading to the suspect's arrest. Miracle admitted to the crime. Both the victim and the suspect, however, were taken to FETHA for post-exposure prophylaxis and laboratory tests. FETHA issued a medical report that confirmed the girl had been raped.

The suspect will be charged with rape and robbery at the appropriate court in Ebonyi State, according to the PPRO. He also noticed that the suspect had a history of molesting young girls in the area. "It is important to note at this point that the suspect attempted to rape a minor earlier this year, whom he forcefully grabbed in the company of others."
