UKPO KICKS AGAINST RELEASING BIODATA TO EKWEREMADU, LONDON
Don't give my biodata to the Ekweremadu and London Court, the alleged victim pleads the Nigerian court over alleged organ harvesting
David Ukpo, the alleged victim of the alleged organ harvesting scandal involving Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, requested on Tuesday that the Federal High Court in Abuja reverse its July 1 ruling authorizing the release of his biographical information for use in the trial of Ekweremadu in a London court.
While criticizing the court's procedures that resulted in the order being issued, Ukpo stated that his fundamental rights to a fair trial and privacy had been gravely violated.
His complaint was that neither he nor the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, who serves as the Federation's Chief Law Officer, was added as a defendant to the lawsuit. Ukpo requested that Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo revoke the ruling allowing the release of his biodata to Ekweremadu and his wife for their defense before Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London in a move on notice he just filed through his attorney, Mr. Bamidele Igbinedion.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the Comptroller General, the Nigeria Immigration Service, Stanbic IBTC Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), and the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System are the defendants in the motion concerning the alleged violation of fundamental rights. The applicant is asking the court to enjoin the defendants, their agents, privies, staff, and employees from providing Ekweremadu and his wife with any information pertaining to him for their defense in the London court.
