NIGERIA VS GHANA: CAF DOCTOR SLUMPS, DOES AFTER FANS INVADED STADIUM IN ABUJA

A Zambian medical doctor, Joseph Kabango, has died in Abuja after the Nigeria Vs Ghana 2022 FIFA World Cup play-off.

Kabungo was the Confederation of African Football (CAF) doping control officer for the Super Eagles and Black Stars game at the MKO Abiola stadium on Tuesday.

According to reports he died after violence erupted at the end of the match in Abuja A witness told said that he lost consciousness after he was beaten and stipped upon as fans tried to get out of the stadium in the stampede.

"When the fans rushed on to the pitch of play and started destroying things and beating people up, we had to rush into the tunnel to save ourselves Dr. Kabungo was beaten and stepped upon by the crowd and was unconscious, An ambulance had to be called so as to rush him to the hospital after they tried to resuscitate him without success."

Kamanga said Dr Kabungo was a dedicated and widely loved member of the football community and his impact was vast, having also been part of the 2012 Africa Cup winning team.

"His death is a huge loss as Dr Kabungo was a friend and confidant to many generations of players and their families," he said.

Kamanja said Dr Kabungo was one of the outstanding Zambian football personalities that flew the Zambian flag at global football events.

"We all have to learn from his example of excellence and celebrate his legacy by breeding more hard working football Zambian administrators, Kamanja said.
